Michael is Chairman and CEO of Liebreich Associates, through which he provides advisory services and speaks on clean energy and transportation, smart infrastructure, technology, climate finance and sustainable development. He is also the Founder and Senior Contributor to Bloomberg New Energy Finance. He is a member of the UK Department for International Trade’s Capital Investment Advisory Board and a Visiting Professor at Imperial College's Energy Futures Lab and most recently joined Sustainable Development Capital LLP (SDCL) as a Senior Adviser.

Michael is Founding Chairman of the Liebreich Foundation (Philanthropic) and Association EcoVillages, a Swiss charity focusing on sustainability of mountain regions. He has recently completed a charitable project building a solar power system to support a Neo-natal unit in Sierra Leone (www.projectbo.org).

Michael has an MA in Engineering from the University of Cambridge, where he won the Wyatt Prize for Engineering and the Ricardo Prize for Thermodynamics. Michael has an MBA from Harvard, where he was a Harkness Fellow and Baker Scholar. Michael has won lifetime achievement awards from BusinessGreen and the UK Renewable Energy Association and has been a two-time finalist in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.

Prof. dr. Wim C. Sinke (1955) is Principal Scientist Solar Energy bij ECN part of TNO. Hij is tevens bestuurslid van de TKI Urban Energy, de nationale publiek-private samenwerking voor energie-innovaties in de gebouwde omgeving, inclusief zonne-energie. Daarnaast is hij co-chairman van het European Technology & Innovation Platform Photovoltaics (ETIP PV), deeltijdhoogleraar Photovoltaic Energy Conversion aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam en als gastmedewerker verbonden aan onderzoekinstituut AMOLF.

Wim Sinke studeerde experimentele natuurkunde aan de Universiteit Utrecht en deed van 1981 tot 1985 promotieonderzoek op het gebied van zonnecellen bij het FOM-Instituut AMOLF in Amsterdam. Vervolgens werkte hij als postdoc bij het Hitachi Central Research Laboratory in Tokyo en enkele jaren als groepsleider bij AMOLF alvorens in 1990 bij ECN in dienst te treden om het onderzoeksprogramma op het gebied van fotovoltaïsche zonne-energie (PV, ofwel zonnestroom) op te zetten. Sinds 1 april 2018 hebben ECN en TNO hun krachten op energieonderzoekgebied gebundeld en “ECN part of TNO” gevormd.

Voor zijn onderzoek aan zonnecellen en zijn bijdragen aan ontwikkeling en toepassing van PV ontving hij 1992 de Jacob Kistemakerprijs van de Stichting FOM, in 1998 de NOZ-PV Prijs van Novem (nu RVO.nl), in 1999 de Koninklijke/Shell Prijs voor Duurzame Ontwikkeling en Energie en in 2011 de prestigieuze European Becquerel Prize. In 2015 werd hij voor zijn verdiensten op het gebied van zonne-energie benoemd tot Ridder in de Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw.

Gerard Reid has over two decades’ experience in equity research and fund management in the energy area. He is also a leading energy expert and lecturer, author and monthly columnist for BIZZ energy today, the German energy industry publication. Prior to founding Alexa Capital, he was Managing Director and Head of European Cleantech Research at the US investment bank Jefferies & Co. Before joining Jefferies, Gerard managed a renewable energy fund. He has broad relationships across the institutional and private investor communities as well as amongst government policy makers, utilities and technology providers to the energy area. Gerard has been teaching in the university in Berlin for the last decade. Gerard holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree as well as a Higher Diploma in Education from Trinity College Dublin.

Paul van Son, based in Essen (Germany and Dubai (UAE), joined innogy SE as its Country Chairman for MENA (West Asia and North Africa) and Turkey in January 2015. innogy SE, is a leading company in the field of renewables, grids and retail of power and gas, with annual turn-over of over 40 bln€.

Paul has been active for over 35 years in various supervisory board, executive and operations management positions in the international renewable energy, grid infrastructure and gas business. In his present function he reports to the Chairman of innogy’s Executive Management Board.

His leadership experience is marked by pioneering positions and developments, such as: control system development at Siemens AG (Germany), system operator of the unbundled Dutch national power system at TenneT (previously TenneT) and power system control centre consultancy at DNV/KEMA. From 1998 onward he has been the managing director of Essent Sustainable Energy (Nl), CEO of Essent Energy Trading, and Chairman of the Management Board of Deutsche Essent GmbH in Düsseldorf, building up these innovative and international key activities of Essent N.V. (the largest Dutch energy company).

In 2009 Mr. van Son was appointed CEO of Dii GmbH (Munich), known as “Desertec Industrial Initiative”, an international industry consortium for facilitating a market for renewable energy in the deserts of MENA, including international interconnections. Presently, besides his role as innogy Chairman for MENA & Turkey, he is leading the Dii industry group in Dubai, focusing on solving financial, technical and regulatory challenges for renewable energy and hydrogen projects and interconnected system integration.

Mr. van Son is the founder and honorary President of the European Federation of Energy Traders (www.efet.org). He is Chairman of the Energy4All Foundation (www.energy4all.org ), a non-profit organization promoting decentralized energy systems in Africa. He is among others a member of the Board of DEWA/innogy’s Joint Venture in Dubai, member of the Board of Ghorfa (German-Arab Chamber of Commerce) and the Board of the German-African Business Association. He graduated as an electrical engineer at the Technical University Delft and in Corporate Governance at Nyenrode University, Netherlands.

Sam Wilkinson is a Research Manager for the Solar and Energy Storage Research group at IHS Technology. During his time working within the group, Sam has been responsible for researching the PV inverter market and the PV module and poly-silicon supply chain working closely with leading global suppliers to develop detailed analysis on these markets. Sam has also been responsible for establishing primary research reports focusing on solar demand and policy, complementing IHS extensive research of the complete PV supply chain. Building on his experience in the solar research team, Sam established and now leads IHS Technology’s coverage of energy storage, covering a wide range of topics within this fast developing sector. Sam’s analysis and commentary is regularly published by leading PV and energy industry media and also the global press. He has also presented at many leading industry events and conferences. Before beginning his career at IHS, Sam worked as a Structural Engineer for one of Europe’s leading engineering firms. He graduated from The University of Nottingham with a degree in Engineering.

Itske previously worked as Investment Manager Nature and Environment and Microfinance with Stichting DOEN and as Business Development Manager and Country Director with a renewable energy development company in Central Europe. In the past 7 years she was Fund Manager of Triodos Groenfonds, investing in senior debt for projects in the Dutch renewable energy, organic agriculture and sustainable building sectors. TGF also invests up to 20% in renewable energy projects in emerging markets.

In her current position as Director Energy & Climate of Triodos Investment Management Itske manages the business line Energy & Climate, with 1 bln assets under management through Triodos Groenfonds, Triodos Renewables Europe Fund and Triodos Vastgoedfonds. She also acts as Chair of the Council for Green Funds of the Dutch Banking Association. In that role she is closely involved in the Dutch Energy Agreement.

Siebren Zijlstra is CFO of GroenLeven. Before that Siebren assisted, as a Manager of the Business Development / M&A department of TenneT and owner of Sinne Wente, 10 years (2009-2018) in equity financing initiatives, M&A transactions and new business development / digitisation initiatives primarily with TenneT within the electricity and telecommunications sector.

Siebren presents regularly as keynote speaker on strategic developments in society from a technological and capital markets perspective.

The work at TenneT was preceded by setting up a Dutch office for Babcock & Brown, an Australian-based infrastructure investor. Siebren was Investment Director in Munich and Amsterdam originating and executing deals in North-West Europe (2006-2008). Prior to joining Babcock & Brown, Siebren worked within TenneT (2003-2005) in the areas finance, regulation, control, strategy and organisational development. Siebren started his professional career at PricewaterhouseCoopers, working for 5 years in the Corporate Finance division (1997-2002).

Larissa Gunst is a Business Originator and Meteorologist at Priogen, an energy trading & optimization company from Amsterdam. Larissa joined the team in 2016 as an Operational Meteorologist on the trading floor, providing European weather forecasts for trading decisions. In 2017 she combined her meteorological knowledge and experience from the trading floor with portfolio optimizing strategies at Priogen’s business development department. Here, Larissa set up the inhouse solar model and collaborates with a team of programmers and meteorologists to develop new services to de-risk renewable capacity owners. Currently she is responsible for (inter)national PPAs and weather forecasting services for wind and solar portfolios, and is project lead for PPAs in Italy.

Larissa holds a master’s degree in Meteorology and Hydrology from the Wageningen University. In her spare time, Larissa is an enthusiastic Zumba fitness instructor.

Huibert Baud (46) is manager Strategy and Innovation at the Dutch regional network operator Liander. Liander distributes electricity to 3.0 million customers and gas to 2.9 million customers in about one third of the Netherlands. Liander is responsible for the maintenance, expansion and innovation of its grids. Liander also allows its customers to purchase energy from their supplier of choice. Liander is part of Dutch network company Alliander. The Strategy and Innovation department assesses the impact of long term trends at the grids and the operation of Liander. Huibert Baud studied Engineering Physics at Delft University of Technology and worked at several departments at energy company Nuon and Dutch network company Alliander.

Bouke van der Weerdt is the Solutions Manager for Huawei’s Benelux Solar division, seated in the Amsterdam office. With over 14 years of experience in power conversion technology for both terrestrial and space applications, photovoltaic applications became the common thread in his professional career.

Huawei, in the industry mainly known for smartphones, enterprise IT and telecom products, is now also the #1 global supplier for string inverters with an installed portfolio exceeding 90GW in 2018. Huawei’s solar portfolio delivers complete inverter solutions from 2kW residential applications up to utility-scale solar farms as large as 1GW using exclusively string inverters.

In his current position as Solutions Manager, Bouke is responsible for the customer’s technical requests within the Benelux sales team. “My job is to help the customer find the best solution for his application, using Huawei’s extensive product portfolio. These solutions extend far beyond the classical PV module – inverter interface, into more data-driven approaches where digital communication becomes key to the long-term success of the installation.”

Zijn onderzoek focust zich op de implicaties van hernieuwbare energie technologieën op de menselijke leefomgeving. Sinds 2017 is Sven ook aangesteld als Professor Landschape Architecture (Lector) aan de Academie van Bouwkunst, Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten (AHK). Aan de academie leidt hij het onderzoeksteam dat onderzoek doet naar de rol van ontwerpers in de energietransitie. Hij is lid van verschillende academische commissies en bekleedt verschillende adviesfuncties. Sven wordt frequent gevraagd om zijn onderzoeken te presenteren op internationale conferenties. Verder publiceert hij in wetenschappelijke tijdschriften en boeken die toonaangevend zijn in zijn vakgebied.

Dr. Lenneke Slooff-Hoek is Medior Research Scientist Solar Energy bij ECN part of TNO. Ze coördineert daar het vakgebied van landschappelijke inpassing van zonneparken in de breedste zin van het woord, met aandacht voor esthetiek, beleving, acceptatie, biodiversiteit en meervoudig landgebruik met o.a. landbouw. Verder is ze nauw betrokken bij het nationaal consortium Zon op Land (voorheen Zon in landschap en Landbouw).

Lenneke Slooff-Hoek studeerde natuurkunde aan de Universiteit Utrecht. Na haar afstuderen heeft ze bij het Instituut voor Atoom- en Molecuulfysica (FOM-AMOLF) in Amsterdam onderzoek gedaan aan lichtversterkers, waarop ze eind 1999 promoveerde. Aansluitend is ze bij het Energieonderzoek Centrum Nederland (ECN) gaan werken aan de ontwikkeling van zonnecellen, aanvankelijk experimenteel onderzoek op het gebied van plastic zonnecellen, maar later optische en elektrische modelering van zonnecellen en -panelen. Recentelijk is de focus meer en meer op landschappelijke integratie van zonneparken komen te liggen waarbij ze zowel als projectleider als inhoudelijk betrokken is. Sinds 1 april 2018 hebben ECN en TNO de krachten gebundeld onder de naam ECN part of TNO.

Alex Kaat is sinds 1 maart 2019 zelfstandig ondernemer op het gebied van public affairs op het thema duurzame energie. Hiervoor werkte Alex bij Eneco. Eerder werkte hij als manager communications and advocacy bij de internationale NGO Wetlands International, als senior beleidsmedewerker in de Tweede Kamer en bij de Rijksoverheid (I&W).

Op dit moment werkt hij voor Holland Solar op public affairs rond grondgebonden zonprojecten en ontwikkeld hij een handreiking en gedragscode voor zon op land. Daarnaast staat Alex enkele partijen bij rond de finale onderhandelingen voor het Klimaatakkoord.

Vishal Punamiya is CEO of Sitemark. He oversees the overall commercial and product strategy for Sitemark’s Aerial Data Platform. Sitemark enables enterprises to deploy drones and aerial data at scale while enabling their digital transformation strategy.

Sitemark is used today to monitor +1400 PV sites across +30 countries by asset owners, operators and EPCs during pre-construction, engineering and construction phase, COD, EPC-O&M handover, annual inspections, purchase or sale among other stages in the life of a PV asset.

Prior to Sitemark he spent over 13 years as a corporate executive building and deploying innovative technology solutions for and within Fortune 100 companies such as Deutsche Post DHL, Panalpina among others. Previously he was CIO at Panalpina, a global Swiss logistics player active in 60+ countries with an annual revenue of Eur+8 bn.

Floris Leuftink is co-founder and investment director at Klimaatfonds Nederland. He is responsible for investments and fundraising.

Klimaatfonds Nederland is a Dutch solar investment fund focused on large scale solar energy projects in the Netherlands. It enables developers and project owners to accelerate their project development activities by providing them with Dutch capital, knowledge and bankable contracts to successfully realize their solar projects.

Prior to founding Klimaatfonds Nederland, Floris spent over 12 years as a solar energy finance, investment and development expert for and within several key industry players such as PwC, Hanergy and Sunrock. In these roles, Floris was involved in the development, financing, acquisition and construction of large-scale solar projects in Europe with a total investment value of over € 300 million.
